Field Trip to Ruth Bancroft Gardens
In 1971, a walnut orchard was cleared and offered to the owner's wife, Ruth Bancroft, so that she could expand her gardens. An Aeonium introduced Ruth to succulents. As it has for many of us, this burgeoned into a lifelong enthrallment with succulent plants. Ruth Bancroft passed away recently at the age of 109, but her gardens survive as a testament to her spirit and love of horticulture.
Today, the Ruth Bancroft gardens are home to a variety of cacti and succulents.
And that original Aeonium? It still grows in the Ruth Bancroft Gardens.
The tour will start at noon, but show up 10 to 15 minutes early so that the club can know how many admissions to pay for.
