South Africa — from Cape Town to the Namibia Border Stephen Lysaght will present a program on the flora of the Western and Northern Cape regions of South Africa, focusing primarily on the Western Karoo, Namakwa, and Richtersveld areas. The trip was taken in mid-August to early September of 2019, which follows the rainy winter season—an optimal time for flowering plants. The presentation will also include cultural and fauna images and information, including an excursion to Kruger National Park in the Northeastern area of South Africa. Stephen is Secretary of the San Francisco Succulent & Cactus Society, a docent and staff member at the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek, CA, and an avid gardener and plant collector. His interest in succulent plants was sparked by his first visit to the Ruth Bancroft Garden more than 20 years ago, which was one of the first in Northern California to focus on xerophytic landscaping.
