Making Small Terra Cotta Pots

You are invited to come to the March meeting and make your own small terracotta planter. Ian Jones will be leading the activity by bringing one-pound balls of clay and demonstrating a variety of pinch-pot techniques. The clay will be soft and pliable, and the instructional and demonstrations will be brief. Your hands will get dirty, so short nails and casual outfits are recommended. Feel free to bring a rock, a piece of canvas, or some other type of texture to decorate the exterior of the pot. He's excited to see the creativity of the participants :)

The pots will be low fired to cone 04 (standard for terracotta ware) and returned to the makers at the April meeting. The pots will not be glazed; the pots will be bare porous clay, just like a traditional red terracotta pot.

We expect to have space and supplies for approximately 40 people for this hands-on activity. If you would like to reserve a spot in this workshop, please sign up by Friday, 2/27, so that he knows how much material to prepare and bring to the meeting. You can sign up by emailing events@csssj.org and leaving your name and number of participants.

Rest assured you don’t have to make a pot to attend the meeting, observers are welcome! We will still have a Mini Show for our CSSSJ members to enter as well. We hope that you will join us!

Special request:
For this meeting, we anticipate it will require extra set up and cleanup due to the nature of the program. Also, we will be in need of some sponges and buckets. If you are able to assist with either setup or cleanup, please email events@csssj.org.

Thank you!
