Country Store

Note: Since the Fourth of July falls on the weekend, the July club meeting will take place on the second Sunday of the month, the 12th. The meeting will forego a mini-show, since we’ll need the table space for the Country Store! If you’ve been to the event in the past, then you know that it’s one of the most entertaining of the season, and a great opportunity for you to share your bounty with your fellow members.

How does it work?

It's a mix of potluck and raffle: attendees bring donations that they think other members would appreciate, and leave them at the appropriate table (see below). They then buy raffle tickets at 5 for $1, and deposit tickets at any table whose items interest them.

Once ticket-depositing time is over, volunteers at each of the four tables take turns drawing tickets from the pots, in small batches, and reading them aloud. If an attendee’s ticket number is called, they go to the corresponding table and grab their item of choice. We keep at this until we’re out of tickets, items, or time.

Details

  • As noted above, the tickets are sold in batches of 5 for $1: you decide how many you would like to buy.
  • The tickets are two-parters: you keep one, and put the other in a pot. Because the ticket numbers can be hard to hear, it's a good idea to mark the tickets you place in the pots. Some people mark their initals with Sharpies; others use personal stamps or stickers.
  • How you distribute your tickets is entirely up to you. You can spread them evenly between all four tables, leave them all at one table, or anything in between.
  • The table categories are:
    • Cacti
    • Succulents
    • Miscellaneous items (books, pots, rocks, etc.)
    • Desserts
  • If you do bring desserts, please make certain that they are individually wrapped.
  • If you have a loud voice, or at least one that projects well, please volunteer! We’d appreciate your help in calling out the numbers at each of the four tables.
  • Although we won’t have a pot luck this month, we’ll have water available.
  • Our mini show will resume next month, in August.
  • There will be no regular raffle this month, since the Country Store is itself a big raffle.

We hope you’ll join us for this annual event!
