An Introduction to Succulent & Terrestrial Bromeliads: An Overlooked Group of Succulent Plants

Jorge Quiñónez, a school psychologist in Salinas, CA, has been cultivating cacti and succulents for a decade, with a recent focus on South American species. The talk introduces the bromeliad family, focusing on terrestrial and succulent species. The bromeliads reviewed in this presentation can be used as alternatives in gardens to many rosette succulents such as Agave, Echeveria, and Aloes. While many bromeliads are spiny, which may appeal to cacti collectors, not all are. The presentation combines botanical information with practical cultivation advice, making it suitable for both novice and experienced growers interested in expanding their knowledge of succulent plants. At the end of the talk, the speaker will bring plants for sale, including some that were discussed in the presentation.
